FICA IAESTE Program

Program description

The Faculty of Engineering and Science (FICA) at UFRO, together with the initiative Temuco UniverCiudad (“UniverCity”), are cooperating with the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE). The objective of this internship program for practical training abroad is to offer students of FICA co-financed internships abroad, according to the operational criteria established by both entities. By offering local vacancies for foreign students, FICA is also able to provide vacancies for its own students in host institutions in different countries that are a member of the IAESTE network.

About IAESTE

Temuco UniverCiudad started to cooperate with IAESTE in 2014. Since then, the program has been coordinated in Temuco for all Chile, with a strong emphasis on giving students from the La Araucanía Region the opportunity to get work experience abroad. IAESTE is a non-governmental, independent and apolitical association that offers an international mobility program for students from all over the world, in order to promote the collaboration between universities and companies, as well as values such as international cooperation, absolute non-discrimination, respect for cultural diversity, etc. The vacancies in companies or other entities that are interested in receiving students for internships are collected throughout the year. The Annual Conference takes place each January, where the members come together and interchange these vacancies for foreign students in thousands of companies around the world. Additionally, they can also be shared via intranet, depending on the required starting and end dates of the internships.

Financial support of the Program

The financial support for the student is the following:

The student receives financial support in the form of a salary from the host institution for his/her work. This salary may differ, depending on the host institution and country, and may be paid each week, two weeks or month. The amount gets published in each offer.

In some cases, the host institution can provide accommodation and food. If this is the case, the details will be described in the publication of the offer.

Furthermore, the Internship Management Office may provide other benefits, which will be published for each offer, as an annex to the terms and conditions.

About the Internship

Type of Internship

The offers normally are for students who will carry out their second internship or supervised practical training. This will depend on what the host institution offers.

Duration of the Internship

It will depend on the offer made by the host institution and on the requirements of the applicant's home institution.

Accommodation

It is important to keep in mind that the accommodation of students in the country of destination can be arranged in three different ways:

  • By the company
  • By IAESTE
  • By the intern. This option depends on the internship offer and the country of destination and must be verified by the intern when he/she interacts with the company.
